Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Program
Program Overview
The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Program seeks to ensure that children, youth, and women are informed, healthy, and empowered to make safe and responsible decisions about their bodies and futures. In many communities in Tanzania, limited access to accurate information, stigma, harmful cultural norms, and inadequate youth-friendly services continue to expose young people especially girls and young women to early pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), gender-based violence, and school dropout. Sustainable Futures Tanzania addresses these challenges through education, community engagement, and rights-based approaches that promote dignity, safety, and well-being.
Power Within Campaign
Under our Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Program, Sustainable Futures Tanzania has launched the “Power Within” Campaign, which aims to empower children, adolescents, youth, and women with accurate information, confidence, and awareness to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. The campaign addresses multiple components of SRHR, including bodily autonomy, menstrual health, sexual health, and access to youth-friendly services, while challenging stigma and harmful social norms.
As part of the Power Within Campaign, SFT has: Introduced Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) campaigns in schools, supporting girls with knowledge on menstruation, hygiene practices, and dignity; Begun sexual health awareness sessions for youth through social media platforms, focusing on age-appropriate, respectful, and accurate information; Integrated SRHR messaging into community outreaches, parent meetings, and youth engagement activities. These efforts are designed to create supportive environments where young people and women can access information, ask questions safely, and exercise their rights without fear or discrimination.
